San Diego had a strong quarter with roughly $1.1 billion invested last quarter, with capital flowing into life sciences, software and consumer startups.
Nationally, VC-backed companies raised $73 billion this quarter, down 15 percent compared to $86 billion from last year, according to the PitchBook-National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) Venture Monitor report.
San Diego saw 10 fewer deals in Q3 compared to the quarter prior, and remained fairly difficult for early-stage startups seeking to raise venture capital funding.
While the region saw fewer deals, it is among the highest amount of capital invested in the third quarter for San Diego, showing a preference for quality over quantity.
